Old Parkonians Cricket
Club: reports for 20 – 25 May 2008
1st XI v.
Buckhurst Hill Essex League
PARKS 1'S DISAPPOINTED TO FALL JUST
SHORT
Chasing a sizeable 270 Buckhurst Hill total,
Parks were unable to force home a win from an advantageous position. However,
Parks continue to keep their standards high and the qualities in the field were
impressive. The catching was sound and there was some accurate 'stock' bowling
from Paul Robbins.
Chasing, Parks recovered well from 20-2 with
Paul Robbins again leading the way with a half-century. Alex Greyburn's
effortless knock put Parks in a good position, but it was not to be. Bob Curtis
anchored the Parks reply, carrying his bat for a very good
hundred.
BUCKHURST HILL 270 for 1O wickets (T. Scott
64; P. Robbins 14-2-64-2)
OLD PARKS 250 All Out (B. Curtis 108 not out;
Robbins 56; Greyburn 30)
2nd XI v. Old
Southendians 2nd XI Essex League
Away to Old Southend & Southchurch, Parks lost the
toss and were put in the field. They got off to a bad start by dropping the
opening batsman on nought - he then went on to make 134 not
out!
The OPCC bowling & fielding could have been better
in difficult, blustery conditions, but the Southendian’s declaration at 249 was
very fair and presented Parks with an opportunity for a win. All of the top
order took advantage, with half centuries from Alan Bouquet & Nomi Malik, to
win the game
Old Southendians 249–2d, Old Parkonians 250–6 (A.
Bouquet 64, N Malik 54*)
3rd XI v. Old Southendians
3rd XI Essex League
Having won the toss, Parks put the Southendians in to
bat and in spite of high winds the seamers made runs difficult to come by. But
it was skipper’s son, colt Janagan Vijayanathan who stole the show, bamboozling
all the batsmen with his beguiling and accurate spinners – taking a remarkable 8
for 44 off 15.5 overs.
In reply, Parks made steady progress in difficult
conditions, with Sagar Patel top scoring with 49, to win the match with three
wickets in hand in 45 overs
Old Southendians 150–10 (J Vijayanathan 14.5 - 1- 44 -
8), Old Parks 151-7 (Sagar Patel 49)
4th XI v. Wanstead
5th XI Essex League
Old Parkonians 4th were well beaten by a
powerful Wanstead XI. Bating first, the old boys could only muster 142 all out;
Viz Balakumar led the way with an excellent 33. Despite some excellent spin
bowling by Nick Weekes, Wanstead cruised to victory by six
wickets.
Old Parks (145 all out) lost to a strong
Wanstead side (148-4).
5th XI v.
Strateford Weslyn - Friendly
Old Parks (80) lost to Stratford Weslyn (94)
by 14 runs.
A Parks side with a mix of young colts and
elder gentlemen lost a low scoring match against the more experienced Stratford side on
Saturday.
Electing to bat Stratford made a slow start
against Victor Yatheesh and Lakshman Sathananan and it was only a 4th
wicket stand that gave them a respectable total. When they fell to debutant Ben
Clemoff and under 13 bowler Shane Yamadevan, the remaining wickets fell for only
24. Ben finished with 2 for 13, Shane 2 for 9 and skipper of the day Hitash
Raval 3 for 3.
In reply openers Vasu Sagar and Shaam Patel
appeared in little trouble to quickly reach 20. But from there wickets fell
regularly until Hitash joined Max Solomons at 65 for 9. Batting sensibly they
took the total to 80 and a surprise win looked possible. However, it was not to
be as Max was bowled playing an expansive shot for a well-crafted
12.
Colts
Tues 20 May – v. Frenford Cox and
Kings Trophy
Old
Parks batted first scoring 165 for 4 off their 20 overs. Sagar Patel continued
his fine form, hitting 51 not out before retiring.
In reply Frenford made 134 all out. Basil who looked an
extremely good batsman and bowler scored 50 not out.
Sagar Patel added 4 wickets to his runs for a fine all round
performance.
Old Parks 165-4 (Sagar Patel 51*), Frenford
134 (Sagar Patel 4-0-26-4)
