Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club 5th XI v Upminster 6th on Sat 09 Jun 2018 at 12.30
Match was Drawn

Match report Upminster 6thXI arrived at Fords to face Parks 5thXI on a sunny day on a dry hard and abrasive pitch. Upminsters Ray Calder won the toss and asked Parks to bat first.

Parks openers Bal Diocee and Bhavik Trivedi set about the Upminster bowling attack with a ferocious onslaught - boundaries galore - scoring at over 6 an over when Bhavik fell to an excellent diving catch to his right at short mid-wicket by Upminsters impressive little youngster Liam Robertson for 47 - with the total at 96 in the 15th over. The catch was so good that Bhavik was left stunned and congratulated the youngster before leaving the field. Bal Diocee continued the run-fest and posted 58 despite a torn right bicep before being clean bowled by Molly Amrani's first delivery. With the score at 134 for 2 in only the 20th over a platform had been set for a big score. Sachin Fing joined Umar "Orange" Arbar at the crease but both were prised out by the accurate bowling of Guy Robertson for 14 and 32 respectively. Tariq Jameel and Rashmin Patel then built a 78 run partnership - both finishing unbeaten on 55 and 23 respectively to bring Parks to an imposing total of 252 for 4 off 37 overs declared. Parks felt confident going in to an early tea that 48 overs at the opposition were enough to secure a win.

Upminster began their reply slowly and it was obvious that they would not be attempting to chase down the target. Parks opening bowlers worked excellently with young Talha Raja bowling accurately and starving Upminsters openers of scoring opportunities. At the other end Inderjit Singh capitalised on the pressure and removed Armani Sheikh, James Perman, Ray Calder (skipper) and Harvey Daniels - with only one of them reaching double figures. Jeevan Chahal bagged 3 wickets in his first game of the season and Parks fielding and catching looked good as the pressure was applied.

However - Ben Kinder then joined the experienced Ian Twine and gave a masterclass in dead-bat defence and frustrated Parks bowlers. Every bowling option was tried and more & more attacking fields set but it wasn't until the 50th over of the innings that Ian Twine eventually played an attacking stroke and fell to a catch after crafting a well made 42.

Parks simply couldn't capitalise on the excellent batting to convert this game to a win - but 12 points sees Parks consolidate their 2nd place in the division and next week is a crunch away game against leaders Brentwood - a game that might possibly decide the eventual winners of the division. Parks will go into that game knowing that our bowling is more than capable and the batting has the strength in depth and confidence to set a score or chase one down.
